Summer is fast upon us, and it is important to take precautions against mosquito-born illnesses. Here are some helpful tips:
*The risk of contracting West Nile virus infection is low if you are bitten by a mosquito carrying the virus.
*In the majority of cases there are no symptoms after being bitten, or just mild flu-like symptoms appear.
*If illness does occur, it usually happens within 3-15 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito.
*Prevention is key to keep your family safe:
-Use an insect repellent or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
-Wear long sleeved pants and shirts.
-Removed standing water around your home (i.e. plant
pots, tires, pool covers).
-Check screens, windows, and doors for correct fit and/or
holes.
